Activating a domain name
To be able to use a domain name for a website or for email addresses, name servers should be configured and registered for the domain name (domain name active). Name servers are generally installed by the internet service provider hosting the website. Please note that this service is not provided by DNS-LU.
To activate domain names with DNS-LU, the server names should be submitted as soon as they are received from the hosting company. The server names should always be given and not the IP addresses (e.g. ns1.yourisp.com, ns2.yourisp.com).
If the domain name is managed using the DNS-LU classic procedure, the administrative contact must provide the information using the registration document provided for this purpose. The manager of a domain name on the online platform my.lu must enter the server names himself. Note that activitation of your domain name will only work when registered server names are correctly configured. Otherwise introduced server names will not be accepted by the system, i.e. old server names are not replaced, new ones are not registered and the domain will go inactive.
If domain names are to be activated through a registrar other than DNS-LU, you should contact your usual registrar regarding the procedure, which may vary from one registrar to another.
The name servers indicated are then tested and the outcome of the tests is displayed. If the result is negative (error, etc.), the domain name is classified as “reserved”. See also the sections * What is an inactive domain name? and * Testing whether name servers are configured correctly.
