How do I register a domain name?
A domain name is always registered and managed via a registration agent, also known as a registrar. The registrar will be the contact for any administrative and technical questions. A .lu domain name may be requested directly from DNS-LU in its capacity as a registrar or from another registrar accredited to manage .lu domain names.
Going through DNS-LU
In its capacity as a registrar, DNS-LU allows domain name holders to choose their technical and billing contacts and the server names. In addition, there are two domain name registration and management options to choose from at DNS-LU. The easiest, most economical and quickest way is to register using the online platform my.lu. You create your account free of charge on the site www.dns.lu. The system automatically sends you an email with an activation link. All billable operations are to be paid for immediately by credit card. The person in charge of the management is known as the manager. The manager may be the domain name holder, one of the contacts or a third, duly authorised person. The second option is “classic” domain name registration and management. In this case, you can fill in (or get somebody to fill in) the paper forms at your leisure and send them, duly signed, to DNS-LU by post or fax. Payment should be made within 30 days of receipt of the invoice.
For further information, see section * The differences between management using the DNS-LU-online platform and classic registrationGoing through a registration agent other than DNS-LU
All registrars set their own prices for domain names and these may be different from those applied by DNS-LU. The corresponding invoice will be sent directly by each registrar to the address held on its records. If additional services, other than just the domain name, are required, we recommend that you go through a registrar other than DNS-LU. See section * How do I find a registrar (registration agent)? If in doubt, we recommend that you first find out the conditions and services offered by your usual registrar in relation to your exact needs and the use of the domain name.
