Configuring the name for use
Name servers (also known as DNS servers) locate the domain name on the internet. They translate the domain name into an IP address for the target computer (where, for example, the website can be found). For a domain name to work online, the RESTENA registry requires at least two name servers to be correctly configured for the domain name in question.
A domain name managed by DNS-LU can be registered without a server name. It is then classified as “reserved” or “inactive”. If name server data is unavailable, this can be sent at a later date. The information can be provided at any time in the future.
If a domain name is managed directly by a registrar other than DNS-LU, the registrar may require the registrant to enter specific server names when the domain name is registered.
The name servers are configured by the service provider or by the registrar itself. Contact your usual registrar to find out whether it offers this service and whether the specific server names it provides have to be used. Currently DNS-LU does not offer this kind of service.
